  • What is VGM abbreviation?
    VGM is the abbreviation for "VERIFIED GROSS MASS".
    VGM new regulations of the official standard Chinese name and industry habits are called what?
    Official standard Chinese name: Verify the total weight of the container
    Industry customary name: container weighing the new regulations

    What is the total container weight verified (VGM)?
    Verification of the total weight of the container: the total weight of  the cargo and the total weight of the container tires, including  packaging and litter.

    What is SOLAS, what is IMO, what are they related to VGM?

    SOLAS  is the abbreviation of Safety Of Life At Sea, the full name is  "International convention for safety of life at sea"; Chinese called  "sea life safety convention". The main content is to specify the safety and pollution of the ship.
    IMO: International Maritime Organization is a specialized agency of  the International Maritime Organization, a subsidiary of the United  Nations, which is responsible for the safety of maritime navigation and  the prevention of marine pollution by ships.
    SOLAS is a convention of the International Maritime Organization IMO, a  subsidiary of the United Nations, whose newly revised SOLAS Convention  requires that the container must be weighed and report the verified  weight (ie VGM) to the ship operator and the marine terminal operator.

    Why should we verify the total weight of the container? Verify the total container weight (VGM) set up for the purpose?

    A. Increase the safety of the sea and enhance the safe shipping at sea;
    B. Reduce the risk of loss of goods due to unreasonable stowage caused  by false container weight, which in turn causes damage to the shore, at  sea.
    Effective date for implementing VGM requirements
    Effective from July 1, 2016.

    Who is responsible for submitting VGM information?
    A shipper (the consignor on the bill of lading) is the party responsible for weighing and providing VGM to the carrier;
    B. The shipper may authorize a third party (such as an international  freight forwarder or a dubbing agent) to submit VGM in the name of the  shipper.

    Who will verify VGM data?

    A. Providing accurate VGM is the responsibility and obligation of the shipper;
    B. Shipping companies and terminals will not verify VGM data accuracy;
    C. Each port maritime authority has the right to spot checks on VGM.
    VGM Get the way:
    There are two types of weighing methods available under the SOLAS Convention:
    Method one: the overall weighing method
    After the goods are boxed and the door is closed, the shipper may, on  its own or with the consent of a third party (such as a port or  weighbridge unit), use the equipment certified by the measurement  supervisory authority to weigh the container as a whole.
    Ie the total weight of the trailer loaded with the container, the  total weight obtained minus the weight of the trailer head, the frame  and the fuel tank / diesel fuel, the result is both the required VGM  weight
    Calculation formula: (total weight loaded with container trailer) -  (weight of trailer head, frame and fuel tank / diesel) = VGM weight
    Method 2: Accumulation method
    Calculate the weight of the goods;
    Calculate the weight of the packaging (pallet, liner and other fill and fastening material);
    III. Add I and II to the tare of the container.
    Calculation formula: (weight of the cargo) + (packing material such as  tray, pad and other filled and fastening material plus total weight) +  (container tare) = VGM weight
    VGM Allowable deviation range
    VGM weight should not exceed + - 5% or 1 ton (whichever is less)
    Analysis:  When a VGM is actually 35 tons of containers, the declared weight is  33.5 tons, although the deviation is more than 1.5 tons (more than 1  ton), but because the percentage is (35-33.5) /35=4.29%; And 4.29% of the two values before the small, or 4.29%, so it is still within the acceptable range, is no problem
    When a VGM is actually 12 tons of containers, the declared weight is  11.2 tons, although the percentage is (12-11.2) / 12 = 6.67% (already  more than + -5%), but the deviation is not more than 1 ton
    In the ultra-0.8 tons and 6.67% before the two values are small to  0.8 tons, so it is still within the acceptable range, is no problem
    Did not submit VGM or late to submit VGM risk
    At  present, the major ports and shipping companies unified provisions are  "NO VGM, NO LOAD" that is not submitted VGM weighing information  containers can not be shipped.
